While there might not be a need to remind those in Haiti that the end is nigh, those in the United States sometimes need a gentle reminder that all good things in life will soon meet a horrible and agonizing end.
So, this weeks sign that all the world is going straight to hell is that the U.S. government is going to need to raise the debt cap again. I'm all for optimism, but the Christian Science Monitor figures America's national debt will need to be increased to over 13 trillion dollars in order for it to remain solvent in 2010. That's a whole hell of a lot of money. With the way the country has been performing economically in recent years, it looks like it's going to be very difficult if not impossible to pay that debt down.
