The reason why America's credit is great
Niger is an oil rich country, and this recent coup puts foreign investors like America and China in an interesting situation. Niger has always suffered from chronic corruption. The question is. Will a new regime bring about greater stability in a region with huge profit potential? If so whoever can make inroads with a Nigeria that has the potential for a huge boom, stands to make a killing. This economic carrot alone will encourage heated competition between world powers seeking for influence, but adding the fact that Nigeria is an important oil asset from a national defense standpoint makes it even more likely that proxy battles between powers will flare up and continue to keep Nigeria unstable. Which is a shame. Because if the powers cooperated together, they could invest in an Africa with vast material riches, and turn those unused assets into currency.
Multi-national oil corporations like Exxon and Royal Dutch shell are looking on anxiously as the coup plays out, no matter who wins they are going to get their money. The question is, are Americans going to get their money as well. As ceasar once said, the die is being cast in oil hotspots around the world. Our economy is closely tied to many of these hotspots and without them our economy would be subject to foriegn manipulation and might even grind to a halt.
A coup in Niger? Well I agree that it remains to be seen if its bad news or not. If gas prices go down I think good for the Nigerians, if it goes up not good. If for some reason prices of oil were to rise due to this the World needs to recognize this as a big problem. Perhaps Nigeria will be the location of many wars in the near future. I could see countries sending private armies to the region to create a more stable Nigeria in thier own favor. Makes sense to me if US wanted to take out some Nigerian law makers raising our oil prices. But this type of international involvement does need to be kept quiet. I think this sort of thing happens in many countries who control oil. I think that countries who control oil understand this and do what they can to accomidate those countries with the capibility to apply pressure. Nigeria is a bit different though, more blood may be shed over different issues also. On a different note those dam Nigerians have some nice AKs. They cant afford shoes but have a AK. How do people have guns that cost thousands here in a country where you can survive off of less than $1 a day. I wish I could take a trip there and buy an AK, bet I could get it for real cheap.
ReplyDeleteYou'd never make it out of Nigeria alive Joe.
