Google launched it's own social networking program called Buzz a couple of days ago and it really is pretty cool. Think facebook sans all the annoying crap. It offers status updates, pictures, links and videos as well as updates from Flickr, Picasa, Google Reader and Twitter. There's a dirty little caviat to this delightful new program though. Buzz automatically shows who you e-mail to the most, it makes all of your posts public by default and with its handy dandy little geolocation fuction people can find you where ever you post from, awesome.
May I just say, as a committed veteran stalker I have been waiting for something like Google Buzz. Now whenever I want to terrorize some frightened young woman, so long as she's on Buzz I can find her with the click of a mouse. How fun!
Like I said before, buzz is cool, but users really have to be cautious. If you use Gmail and don't want to use buzz you're going to have to disable it or you'll be automatically opted in, and crazed stalkers like myself will find you and peep in your windows. Here's how to disable the program.

If this is only a couple of days old they may not have worked all the bugs out. I am sure there has to be a way to alter the security settings so that people like you can't stalk others. Can you imagine being at a bar downtown and bumping into a creepy person like Tim. Only to later find out that they knew were you were, and found you without saying they were on their way. Surprise! A super stalker tool if I heard of one. Although in a relationship the Buzz site could allow you to confirm total honesty from your partner. No more of her telling you she is at the gym on the treadmill while she is actually at your best friends house bumpin uglies. You would know. And you would know if she turned her phone off also, so what would she be hiding? This type of site has many potential uses, most of them questionable. I don't have a phone that posts to social networking sites so I dont have that problem, but some day I will. I don't ever think I will want people to know where I am when I post. Wont be able to post when perched in a tree near you crushes house because she may be on and see where you are, busted. I will not be participating in any of this foolishness. Rubish I say!
ReplyDeleteDon't tell Heather I post from the Bushes outside her house Joe, that could get messy. But yes, I'm not a fan of geolocation devices as they seem like a major invasion of privacy.
